Evaluating the Role of Calprotectin in Pathogenesis of Acne Vulgaris in Zagazig University Hospital

Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit. The cardinal pathogenic factors include increased sebum secretion, follicular hyperkeratinization and microbial colonization by Cutibacterium acnes. Calprotectin released from activated neutrophils, can be detected in serum or other body fluids. Aim: aim present study was to clarify if calprotectin plays role acne pathogenesis. Subject Methods: This case control included 42 patients complaining compared with42 apparent healthy individuals matching age sex with group. Human level measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: results showed that higher than controls but difference statistically insignificant(P=0.12). However, there significant correlation between severe subtype mild moderate subtypes (P=0.026). acute onset had gradual (P=0.42), insignificant. male female (P=0.03) Conclusion: Serum controls, positively correlated severity, therefore, might help evaluation severity evaluate response treatment.
